One day I was walking along a beach with my camera, enjoying the views. At some point I looked down and saw fishing wire in amongst the seaweed. Then I saw a plastic bottle, then a crisp packet, and since that day I cannot enjoy beaches in the way I once did. I realised that the natural beauty of these locations can distract us from the harm humans are causing it.
By photographing litter against a white background I separated it from these distractions and ensure that the focus is on the problem. However, the focus is also on the solution – these items are no longer littering a beach. This simple approach encourages others to follow the example shown and pick up marine litter.
